Forum member posted: I got a question man. When you say your an ex-sufferer what does that mean. I have social anxiety and im going through CBT right now. Do ex-suffers mean that their anxiety is controlled now or that you dont feel practically any anxiety in any social situation. Anxiety is necessary for survival and its an unrealistic expectation to want to eliminate all anxiety in all situations. But i need proof that someone can overcome this because i dont want to just be able to deal with the symptoms. I want to be comfortable, witty, clever, and humorous around people but i feel way to anxious. You think with enough hard work you can go from social phobic to social butterfly. I havnt seen any examples in real life or on the internet of people really overcoming this. Just learning to deal with it and learning to stop avoiding things. The ex-suffers that come in to speak to our cbt group are all quiet reserved people that seem nervous giving a talk in front of the group .. That doesn't give me much confidence. I want to go from introvert to extrovert because that's really the intrinsic me but the anxiety has turned me into an introvert. I guess what i really need is a role model. If i knew Chris rock suffered from social anxiety when he was young that would give me so much motivation.  Response on forum: You can make a full recovery ive seen it with my own eyes. I know a guy who had a stammer and he completely transformed his life. now he is the most charismatic person ive ever met. he is a motivational speaker, fitness instructor, life coach and therapist. every week he teaches this thing called kickfit (basically some fitness class) infornt of hundreds of woman. he stands on a platform doing all of these moves infront of woman and shouting over a head piece. Ive been on one of his seminars were he does public speaking and he is amazing. Go on youtube and type in "terry mcelhinney" and c1cik on the link titled "kickfit". this is a video of his keep fit class. also go on his website about him and readabout him.  Forum post, 2008

I am writing on behalf of all of the Knowsley Young Carers who attended the party at Huyton Leisure Centre on Saturday 21st July to say, a huge thank you to you all for everything that you did.

The party was a huge success and many of the young carers said it was the best thing they had ever been to. They thought the inflatable in the pool was fantastic and the entertainer was very funny. Added to this they all left with lots of toys and a £20.00 voucher each. The young carers will I'm sure remember the party for a long time to come.

Sincere thanks for your kindness and generosity. Vicky Bilsborough On behalf of Friends of Knowsley Young Carers 25/07/07

Hello Terry, I am happy to be quoted with the following, "I have first hand experience of the training as provided by Body and Mind Unlimited. The feedback from myself and each of my colleagues who have received this training has been extremely positive. In many cases the results of the training has been life changing for people from a range of designations and backgrounds. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Body and Mind Limited organisation and firmly believe that they have a lot to offer organisations be they big or small". As the workshop was called Body and Mind, I thought the experience I course content may be a little woolly. However the course has some similarities with the Liverpool Way currently run, but is far more structured around the individual, what impacts on there life, what are the individuals thoughts on there work place I structure / management /organisation.

Encourages changes in other parts of your life, such as personnel finance, health and fitness, relationships, self esteem and confidence.  A more rounded, balanced, happier individual is an advantage to all teams.  Makes use of a balance wheel which reflects where we need to make improvements and changes to our own lifestyle, outlook and how we work with and relate to others

I gained the impression that it perhaps made less use of gimmickry e.g. the blue chip game.

Recently during the Supported Living industrial action some placards had negative slogans on about the "Liverpool Way" and perhaps as with most things the Liverpool Way could be re marketed I spruced up. Perhaps the Liverpool Way could incorporate elements of this course. I personally think the introduction of this course could be an asset to the Learning Teams current course portfolio. In twenty years I have been on many different courses, and I can honestly say your course is the only course that has had any real long lasting impact on both my personal and working life.

I have a more positive approach to all areas of my life, have less fear, worry less, suffer from far less stress, gained confidence, have a happier outlook about the present and future.

One of the most important things I gained from your course was the" Reframe " approach which I think about on a very regular basis it keeps me confident that when work / personal life isn't perfect, I remain optimistic and that everyday life is great, and that even the most humble task are worth doing well and always strive to improve.

I've recently been promoted on a secondment to a SAP. training post, which is a great opportunity for me and hopefully will lead to a permanent position, but either way I'm relaxed and positive that everything will be ok.

I can only say positive stuff about the courses you ran for the LCC, and I have mentioned on a fair few occasions to colleagues that all LCC staff would all benefit from attending course.  If you need any other info or I can help in any way, please just email. So Good Luck in everything you do, you deserve to do well and once again Thank You. David.

I'd like to second what Dave has said but not for chance of immortality on a website. My problem handling techniques personal and work have improved immensely as a result of the skills I picked up during the course and I am constantly trying to pass on yours and Carol's words of wisdom/ideas to my girlfriend who does really struggle with a negative hard done to attitude/outlook.

The AFI approach, the balance wheel and without doubt the power to reframe situations has been life changing so thank you both for these tools. I am so much more optimistic and motivated by feeling more in control of my choices since this training and can spot negativity from a new perspective and deal with accordingly. Thank you both again for the learning!!!  Absolutely sincerely thank you, Andy. March 2006
